National Energy Choice Legislation Advances Through Committee

Yesterday marked a major milestone in our fight for energy choice! The House Energy & Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Energy advanced four NEFI-backed bills (with vote count):

Yesterday’s action is the result of years of advocacy by NEFI and its coalition partners. Together, these bills would create comprehensive federal protections for consumer access to heating fuels, appliances, and equipment.

“These four bills collectively safeguard consumer choice, preserve market competition, and promote affordable, reliable, and diverse energy options for American families,” said NEFI President & CEO Jim Collura. “NEFI urges Congress to advance this legislation promptly to the full committee and ultimately the House floor.”

“In particular, we thank Congressman Nick Langworthy of New York, lead sponsor of the Energy Choice Act, for his exceptional leadership. His tireless work has been instrumental in bringing these bills to this critical juncture,” Collura said.

The Energy Choice Act continues to gain momentum, now boasting 126 co-sponsors, a dramatic increase from just 25 last session. This surge demonstrates strong support for protecting American families from government overreach in the home energy market.

The Energy Choice Act is backed by a strong and diverse coalition of national organizations, including:

Many regional, state, and local organizations also support this legislation, including NEFI-affiliated state associations. The bill now moves to the full committee for markup, which may occur as soon as the week of December 1. Afterward, it could potentially receive floor consideration in the coming months.
