ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) – This Thanksgiving, families may notice their holiday meal comes with a higher price tag as grocery costs continue to shift.

Last year, the cost of a full Thanksgiving dinner was just over 58 dollars.

The average cost for a 10-person meal is expected to be less expensive this year at just around 55 dollars.

Here locally, a Thanksgiving dinner from Market Street will cost you about 50 dollars.

Kris Phillips, Store Director at Market Street – Odessa, said “For Thanksgiving, I think it’s kind of leveled out this year. We did see some big price increases a few years back, but this year it’s kind of leveled out and it shouldn’t cost too much more than what it did for you last year.”

Thanksgiving dinners were the most expensive in 2022 and 2023.

Each of those years a full dinner costs over 60 dollars per family.

According to the Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA), some of your favorite holiday staples like turkey are rising in costs.

The USDA reported wholesale turkey prices have increased 40 percent compared to 2024.

Phillips added, “This year we have them for 77 cents a pound and we pay quite a bit more than that for them so, we don’t pass that cost to the guests.”

When it comes to budgeting this Thanksgiving, the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) says you may be able to save money by purchasing a frozen turkey.

Phillips is also seeing shoppers buy more store brand items like broth, sugar, flour, and more.

“It can save them a lot of money buying the store brand over the national brand and their pretty much buying the same item. So, I think some people are doing that this year,” said Phillips.

Market Street has weekly Thanksgiving ads in-store and online to help your shopping become easier.
